Internet users have started to come up with conspiracy theories after Russia launched a mission to release several mysterious objects into Earth’s orbit.

According to the website Space.com, three satellites — Kosmos 2581, 2582, and 2583 — were launched aboard a Soyuz-2.1V rocket from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome on the morning of February 2, marking Russia’s first space mission of the year.

In an official statement, the mission was described as being carried out “in the interest of the Ministry of Defense.” However, in March, a “mysterious object” was cataloged near the satellites, which greatly intrigued internet users.

On his X profile (formerly Twitter), British-American astronomer and astrophysicist Jonathan McDowell commented on the matter, stating that the Space Force cataloged a new object associated with the satellite launch.
According to him, the leading theory is that the object separated from Kosmos-2583 on March 18. To reassure the public, he suggested the object will likely completely burn up upon attempting to reenter Earth’s atmosphere in a few weeks.
